While some Blind Tiger Wednesday-events feature a brewery, they’ve recently started doing style events some weeks, & this past Wednesday was the Great Pumpkinfest! According to the write-up from the maven of the Blind Tiger, Katherine, “The … list is the sort that can make Pumpkin lovers swoon with joy, and even win over the skeptics. It’s the perfect welcome for the crisp fall weather.” Continue reading
After my initial excitement over Sierra Nevada at the BT, my next “omg” moment there came with beer number 13 on my card… Elysian’s Avatar Jasmine IPA. I tasted this beer and thought, “oh my god, this is SOOOOO delicious!!!!” I fell COMPLETELY in love from first sip. The really sad thing was that because the BT rotates their beers so often, I didn’t see it back on tap again until last week (which I’ll write about soon!)! Luckily, I discovered that they carry it from time to time at Whole Foods… yippee!
Well, I happened to mention this beer to my friend and she freaked out because (unbeknownst to me) she is apparently addicted to EVERYTHING Jasmine. Even more excitingly we discovered that the beer/brewery is from Seattle, a reasonable drive from where she lives. Unfortunately, the beer wasn’t being offered just then ‘cause it’s a seasonal offering, and so she would have to wait almost a year before she’d be able to find it out there again.
Fast forward a few months, and I begin to plan my big West coast trip which started with this particular friend in OR. Here’s a snippet of my packing list for ya…
• toothbrush & toothpaste
• Jasmine IPA
• sleeping bag
Yup, tucked into my pack and stored in the deep dark depths of the airplane (within two ziplock baggies), was a bottle of the Jasmine IPA.
Not only was she excited that I had flown her a bottle direct from NYC, but she actually liked it! See?
This, my friends, is what it’s all about… sharing great beer with friends… even if it means a truly long haul!!! I love that not only was I able to successfully transport alcohol from coast to coast without any breakage or spillage, but I was able to give a really fun, unique ‘gift’ to a truly fantabulous friend… all the while ‘promoting’ good beer drinking practices amongst the ladies.
It really is SO good to love beer.
